With just five employees and a small studio in Beirut, Lebanon, Gemy Maalouf emerged as the first designer to launch the concept of “Couture a Porter” in her region. Gemy, with the brand that bears her name, soon awakened the look and curiosity of the young and modern Lebanese woman. With the same concept, Maalouf gained the attention and market beyond the frontiers of where it all began. Paris, Milan and New York, today, are just some of the routes where the textile harmony and the sophistication of the details present in the brand are found.
“The woman has to take on her own style, to be different to the point of becoming irreplaceable,” Gemy Maalouf told Living Aurora after the brand’s fashion show at New York Fashion Week. Over fifty dresses and tailoring pieces were shown in a candlelit setting and live music – violins, of course! Velvet curtains and oil paintings set the tone for a full-bodied collection with refined haute couture features.
The designer’s first show was 17 years ago in Paris. In 2003, at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria, Maalouf made his debut in New York. Since then, at least two collections are released annually in the major fashion weeks of the world.
From Asia to the European Continent, Gemy Maalouf is present in 48 countries and more than 150 boutiques.
